N2  -  Summary. Objective. The aim of this work is to elaborate a tool to support clinicians in the choice of drug therapy for elderly patients diagnosed with major depression disorder or bipolar disorder. Moreover, the availability of schematized information on drug use could increase physicians’ adherence to guidelines. Material and methods. A multidisciplinary group including pharmacists, psychiatrics, geriatricians, general practitioners and researchers collaborated for the selection of guidelines to be used as information sources. Three different guidelines were used to create the two treatment schemes. Recommendations for the use of drugs in the elderly derive from scientific literature review and the Beers and STOPP criteria. Results. Fifty-one active ingredients were analyzed and included in a drug information database for the subsequent elaboration of the treatment schemes. Conclusions. This work represents the first attempt to integrate and outline different guidelines with the aim of improving the quality of care and multidisciplinary collaboration.
